Squamish Search and Rescue volunteers are trying to reach an injured paraglider stuck on the Stawamus Chief mountain.

Squamish SAR president BJ Chute said he is in contact with the injured man.

Chute said the exact location of the paraglider on the Chief is yet to be determined, but SAR volunteers are flying out to set up a rope rescue system for the man.

“We don’t know the extent of his injuries but we have just flown out to set up a rescue system,” Chute said.

The Squamish Search and rescue are an extraordinary group of people always available to help the unfortunates … this is good, but someone must be considering what warrants the efforts…. these folks are risking their lives, the future of their families and possibly is an after the fact appreciation by the victims …. this event did not have to happen, it is evident from the results that the person did not prepare and that is the reason for these occurrences. Time to lay down the rules and the costs have to transferred to the call in … no equity, no permit, no rescue. These good natured folks do like the excitement, but I feel they are being taken advantage of… and that is wrong. Like if any my tax $ are going to save “dare devils” , then stop spending that monies….they got what was ordered.

Wauw, sar goes out to lost and injured skiers, broken Mountainbikers and climbers? We have no idea what really happened up there so no need to react like that. You’re talking about a person’s life and just leaving someone up there, think about it

Yes Donald let’s charge hospital fees to the people that don’t exercise and eat high sugary foods, who smoke, Those dare devils are costing tax dollars probably more than one or two that make the news.

Dear Donald, if the “dare devils” did not exist I doubt we, the Search and Rescue people, will exist as well… Than you will not have anyone to praise and those to spit on… This country spends countless amount of money to the stupidest and most useless projects someone can come up with, so if you want cut-offs, please start criticize those, but saving human life should never come as a question, regardless who and how got them in the situation to need that help… FYI, the Search and Rescue are happy to be able to help…

    Hi.
Can you guys correct this story please.
It was a Base jumper, not a paraglider.

I am a paragliding pilot & , I hate to see media can’t tell the difference between Base Jumper & a Paraglider.
