A Go Fund Me page has been set up for the family whose house in Brackendale was destroyed in a fire yesterday.

The page has been set up Rosemary Stager and aims to raise $100,000 for the family.

“This page is set up to help Earl & Rosie George plus her daughter Sasha Nahanee who both lost their homes in a tragic fire early morning of November 26, 2020,” Stager said.

Squamish Fire Rescue attended to a structural fire on the Wiwk’em Reserve, located at the end of Axen Road in Brackendale.

The call came in at 3:45 a.m.

Emergency Support Services volunteers are responding in coordination with the District of Squamish and Squamish Nation, to support the people impacted.

No-one was injured as a result of the fire, and there is no word on cause at this time, said Christina Moore, the district communications manager.

This is tragic especially in this time frame … but why a fund, was there no insurance? Agreed Property Insurance policies do not cover everything, but usually, the building, contents, and additional living expenses are the basic covers …. ? There have been many insured that have spent the better part of a year in temporary housing while the home is being rebuilt at the cost of the primary home policy. I only question because it seems normal these days to start up a ‘gofundme’ on speculation, especially at a time when money is at a premium.
