Alert: Potentially damaging winds in store for Howe Sound

Environment Canada has issued an alert about potentially damaging winds on Sunday and Monday for the south coast of BC.

Winds are expected to begin Sunday afternoon and will sharply veer northwest Sunday night or early Monday morning as a strong cold front blasts through southwest B.C.

For Metro Vancouver, Southern Gulf Islands, Bowen Island and Howe Sound, winds up to 70 km/h will peak overnight on Sunday and early Monday morning.

The wind will are expected to ease on Monday.

Meanwhile, exposed coastal sections of northern Vancouver Island will see very strong southeast winds of 80 km/h Sunday afternoon.

Communities on the Sunshine Coast and on eastern Vancouver Island will feel the effect of the winds just before midnight on Sunday night.
