Vehicle impounded for speeding, unsafe U-turn on Highway 99

Staff report
December 5, 2020 4:26am

A Surrey driver was issued a violation ticket for speeding, and unsafe U-turn on Highway 99.

The vehicle was also impounded for seven days.

On November 23, the Sea to Sky Traffic unit was conducting road safety enforcement on Highway 99 in Squamish when they noticed a vehicle traveling at 135 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone.

Police tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver turned around in the middle of the highway and headed in the opposite direction.

Police were able to stop the vehicle a short time later and the driver, from Surrey, was provided with multiple violation tickets.

On November 26, Squamish RCMP assisted Lions Bay Fire Department for a basement fire at a home.

The investigation has determined that fire was started because something had fallen on the glass front of a fireplace.
