Public hearing next week for micro hotel in Downtown Squamish

December 10, 2020 4:22pm

The public hearing for a proposed new micro hotel in Downtown Squamish will be held on December 15 at 6 pm.

The public hearing will be held electronically. The hotel will be located at 37773 Cleveland Avenue.

The applicant, Rodney Wilson, has applied to rezone the property from General Industrial (I-3) to Comprehensive Development Zone 97 (CD-97) to allow for the development of a 48-room micro hotel.

There are three ways to participate: In writing, electronic participation, and by phone.

A rezoning application was given second reading by the council in early November

The proposed hotel site is at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Vancouver Street, and close to the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing.

Council had earlier raised concerns about parking.

The proponent says the hotel will partner with local transport companies on bringing guests to Squamish and provide shuttle options around town.

In a rezoning application in November, the proponent has also proposed stacked parking, which would allow for 16 parking stalls, eight stalls stacked on top of each other.

One full height accessible parking stall would also be provided for a total of 17 off street parking stalls, which exceeds the 15-stall requirement of the bylaw, according to a staff report.

To address noise concern, the proponent will enter into a covenant that would not allow for amplified music to be played on the rooftop past 10 pm.
