12 Fairmont Whistler employees positive for COVID-19

Staff report
January 28, 2021 1:19pm

As many as 12 employees of Fairmont Chateau hotel in Whistler have tested positive for COVID-19, the hotel said.

“We can confirm that 12 employees have tested positive for COVID-19,” said Lynn Henderson, regional director, public relations, Fairmont Hotels.

“We are working closely with Vancouver Coastal Health to follow the appropriate protocols to mitigate risk and ensure that our hotel remains a healthy and safe place for all who visit.

These measures include self-quarantine for the individuals and all who were in close contact.

The hotel is also taking mandatory public health measures to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

Those include no social gatherings or meetings in any setting; alcohol sales ending at 10pm; a maximum of 6 people from the same immediate household at any restaurant or lounge table; no movement between tables; and only seated eating and drinking permitted.

Spa services are by appointment only and the indoor fitness centre and swimming pools have limited capacity.

Pool access is by reservation only and in one-hour increments.

Yesterday, VCH issued COVID-19 advisories for three bars in Whistler, and also issued alerts for three local restaurants last week.

Whistler Mayor has also expressed concerns about the increasing number of cases in the community.
