BC Parks cautions about two ‘avalanche paths’ at Garibaldi park

Staff report
February 8, 2021 10:53am

BC Parks is cautioning people to outdoor recreations to be aware of ‘avalanche paths’ at the Garibaldi Lake trail and the Elfin Lakes trail.

“Please be aware that avalanche paths exist on both of these trails,” BC Parks said.

The trail to Elfin Lakes is marked with orange poles, and people are being advised to follow that route.

Garibaldi Lake has two potential slide paths: Taylor Creke and Parnassus Cree.

They can be avoided by traveling via Taylor Meadows.

In January, BC Parks also advised that all outdoor recreationists in the park should carry avalanche equipment and be trained on how to use.

“Carry avalanche equipment (shovel, probe and transceiver) and be trained in its use,” BC Parks said.

BC Parks also urged people to visit www.avalanche.ca for the current avalanche forecast and more information.

“Trails are not maintained in the winter, and pass through avalanche terrain. Use at your own risk,” BC Parks says.

Meanwhile, the Shannon Falls to Stawamus Chief park connector trail will open today.

BC Parks had shut it down for maintenance for the last few days.
