Two people were extracted by Squamish Search and Rescue crews and taken to hospital after an accident on the Garibaldi Park road.
BJ Chute, the SAR manager, said the accident happened on Monday, February 15, on the road above Quest University.
One of the women was injured in the leg, while the other was taken to the hospital with a lower back injury.
SAR was called by the local emergency responders after fire and ambulance staff couldn’t reach the patients because of poor road conditions.
“Squamish SAR responded with four by four and snowmobiles and evacuated the two female patients,” Chute said.
Meanwhile, several vehicles were stuck on Garibaldi Park road, with reports about one of them sliding down an embankment although no injuries were reported.
“The road does get covered in road and ice and people need to make sure they have proper snow tires, and have a little bit of emergency supply, food, and blankets,” Chute said.
SAR also responded this past Saturday to a call about a skier who had lost his way around the Heather Hut area in Garibaldi Provincial Park.
He was being treated for extensive exposure injuries after being rescued.
The skier told SAR members he survived overnight by running around and doing jumping jacks.
