Squamish RCMP warn about car thieves

Staff report
March 16, 2021 11:29am

Squamish RCMP are warning the public about car thieves at work in Squamish.

Between March 9 and 15, Squamish RCMP have responded to multiple complaints of thefts from cars, attempted car thefts, and stolen cars.

Squamish RCMP will be releasing photos of stolen vehicles soon.

These thefts have taken place in various neighborhoods and during any time of day with tools or even rocks being used to gain entry into cars.

Squamish RCMP are using the car bait program, and officers are conducting regular patrols to catch the thieves, says Sgt. Dan Pollock of Squamish RCMP.

Police is also encouraging locals to secure belongings and to not leave anything of value in cars. Citizens are also  urged to report car break ins, even if minor, by calling the police on the non-emergency line (604-892-6100).

Locals can also report the crime with the Online Crime Reporting system if they have been victim of mischief or theft from vehicle under $5,000, if there are no witnesses or suspects, and no items involving personal identity, firearms, licence plates, or decals are involved.

Anyone with any information about the thefts can contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to the http://www.solvecrime.ca
