As the province battles the Brazilian variant and new restrictions come into effect, many wait for Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry’s daily briefing with mounting dread.
But there is a glimmer of hope in the depressing churn of pandemic reports: A large majority of people in BC are recovering from COVID-19.
On April 21, the province announced there have been 121,751 cases of COVID-19 in BC since the pandemic began.
Since then, 111,039 people who tested positive have recovered from the disease so far, a recovery rate of 91%.
There is more hope-filled news closer home.
Yesterday, VCH said it has recorded a reduction in COVID-19 transmission in the Whistler community compared to recent weeks.
From April 12 to April 18, VCH identified 72 new cases of COVID-19 in Whistler.
Just a week before that, there were 179 new cases of COVID-19 in Whistler.
To ensure all eligible residents have the opportunity to get vaccinated, an additional clinic day will be held on April 28 at Whistler Conference Centre for those who were unable to get vaccinated last week.
As many as 1,456,946 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca-SII COVID-19 vaccines have also been administered in BC.
VCH is again urging those 40 and above to get vaccinated.
“For each person who gets vaccinated, we are all safer. When your turn comes up for one of the three vaccines, it is your turn to go. We strongly urge you to book your appointment as soon as you can. This is one of the important ways for you to do your part,” the province says.
