An environmental group is planning to shut down the Lions Gate Bridge today.
“We will be shutting down the Lions’ Gate Bridge to say no to fossil fuel exports in waters of the Salish Sea, and to demand a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice,” Extinction Rebellion says.
The group is asking its supports to meet at Devonian Harbour Park at 12 pm for the planned action.
Yesterday, the group shut down traffic on the Granville Bridge, and eight people were arrested by Vancouver Police for refusing to leave the bridge.
The group remained on the bridge for several hours disrupting traffic flow.
“Police were forced to arrest the remaining eight people for mischief and intimidation for blocking a roadway after several verbal warnings were given.”
The group says it plans to ‘stop business as usual’ from May 1 to 5.
The group plans to bike and skateboard through downtown tomorrow, and plans to meet at Nelson Park on May 5.
Glenn Stainton says
Good for the cops I am sure none of the protesters will worry about missing a day of work or being late to pick up their kids.
Mark Caulton says
Good for the protesters. Our kids appreciate you dedication.
