COVID-19 cases fall again in Howe Sound region

Staff report
May 6, 2021 1:31pm

COVID-19 cases continue to fall dramatically in the Howe Sound Health Region.

From April 25 to May 1, the Howe Sound region recorded only 39 cases, according to the latest weekly data released by British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

Of these, 15 cases were recorded in Whistler

Howe Sound health region comprises Squamish, Britannia Beach, Whistler, and Pemberton and its rural areas.

From April 18 to April 24, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) recorded 50 cases of COVID-19 in the region, of which 17 were in Whistler, a very sharp decline from previous weeks.

VCH doesn’t release community specific data for Squamish or Pemberton, nor does it provide any data on recovery or hospitalization for the region.

From April 11 to April 17, there were 131 positive people in the local health region, and 337 people in the week before that.

“We have three highly effective and safe vaccines available in our province, and the more people who receive their vaccine, the faster we will get to the point where COVID-19 is no longer disrupting our daily lives,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry.

“With additional supply now available, we’re accelerating our delivery and we also need you to do your part. We all need to register to reserve our spot and book our vaccine as soon as we are eligible,” she said
