COVID-19 cases in Howe Sound region plummet to just 11

Staff report
May 13, 2021 11:52am

COVID-19 cases in the Howe Sound health region continue to decline dramatically.

From May 1 to May 8, the Howe Sound region recorded only 11 cases, according to the latest weekly data released by British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

COVID-19 numbers have been consistently falling since the last few weeks. From April 25 to May 1, there were only 39 cases in the local health region.

Howe Sound health region comprises Squamish, Britannia Beach, Whistler, and Pemberton and its rural areas.

From April 18 to April 24, there were 50 cases of COVID-19 in the region, 131 positive in the week before that and 337 people tested positive in the week before that.

More than 50% of all eligible people in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, the province said, and Premier John Horgan is calling for everyone to register for vaccination and help friends, family and neighbours to do the same.

“COVID-19 has turned our lives upside down, but this milestone gives us hope of better days ahead. We have to keep going,” he said.

I’m a bit confused. Are there only11 NEW cases , or are there only 11 people with the Covid ?

My first question as well, the headline felt misleading and the article did not clear that up. New or Active? Big difference.
