Off-leash dog park planned at Brennan Park

The District of Squamish plans to add an off-leash dog park at the local recreation centre as it works to finalize a new Brennan Park Fields and Lands Master Plan.

An off-leash dog park was added near the Gravel Field as part of the plan.

“A dog park should be created near the existing gravel field. The dog park should consider separating large and small dog breeds and providing waste management such as pick-up bags, garbage,” the report notes.

An off-leash dog park, covered outdoor basketball courts, increase in trail network, upgraded Frisbee golf course, large, covered area for outdoor programing, and more public washrooms were some other things desired by the community.

A splash park at the Brennan Park is one among the several goals for the recreation centre.

The water park would cost anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million, and could possibly be located directly north or south of the Brennan Park.

“District would prefer to locate it near parking and picnic areas and in a place that isn’t windy or where there is shade,” says the draft master plan.

Other goals of the master plan include enhancing the existing BMX, Skate Park, Mountain Bike Skills Parks and adding an Indoor Bike Park.

Along with a splash park, two Beach Volleyball Courts, a covered area suitable for programs, and a picnic area north of the recreation centre is also one of the goals of the master plan.
