Stolen bikes, copper wire recovered from illegal campsite

Staff report
June 3, 2021 11:12am

Squamish RCMP have recovered stolen bikes and copper wire from an illegal campsite in town.

Three prolific offenders were arrested, although police didn’t specify the location of the illegal campsite.

The investigation started when a downtown resident complained to Squamish RCMP about bike thefts from their home on May 28.

Police officers conducted patrols and were able to locate the stolen bikes and large amount of copper wire at the illegal campsite.

Three prolific offenders were arrested and two were also issued violation ticket for attracting dangerous wildlife.

A violation ticket for camping in a public place was also issued in accordance with the Squamish camping bylaw.

Police are also investigating the two individuals for possession of property allegedly obtained by crime.

Drone damages tent

On May 25, Squamish RCMP received a report of mischief over $5,000, which occurred to a storage tent located in the 39000 block of Government Road.

The complainant said sometime between May 23 and May 25, an unknown individual flew a drone through the roof of the tent and tore the tent.

It is alleged that the individual then broke into a fenced area, went inside and retrieved the drone. The damage is estimated at $200,000.
