5 cases of COVID-19 in Howe Sound health region

Staff report
June 5, 2021 11:40am

The latest weekly data by British Columbia Centre for Disease Control shows there were only 5 cases of COVID-19 from May 23 to May 29.

Howe Sound health region comprises Squamish, Britannia Beach, Whistler, and Pemberton and its rural areas.

However, BCCDC doesn’t release any data on how many people recovered or were hospitalized. The data is not released for individual communities either.

BCCDC had reported the same number of cases from May 16 to May 22, and 14 cases in the week prior to that.

COVID-19 cases in the local health region have showed a sharp decline from early April, when reported cases were often in the hundreds.

The North Shore region has seen an uptick in cases after weeks of decline, although numbers are falling across the province.

Yesterday, BC Government announced 183 new cases of COVID-19.

“Our goal is to get as many people as possible fully vaccinated with their COVID-19 vaccine as soon as we can. This is what will help us control the spread of the virus in our communities,” the province said.

“We are grateful for the many people in every part of our province who have stepped forward without pause to get their first, and now their second, dose. Demand for vaccine is high, and this is very good for all of us.”

The province plans to ramp up vaccination for second dose this month.
