The Squamish Community Foundation (SCF) has distributed $66,000 in Annual Grants and $3000 in scholarship funds.

The SCF had more funds to grant this year than ever before, including a contribution from the District of Squamish under BC’s Safe Restart Program for COVID-19 Response and Recovery projects.

The diverse recipients include Squamish CAN, Easter Seals Camp, Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School PAC, Howe Sound Women’s Centre, and KidSports Squamish, Squamish Welcome Centre, among others.

Grant topics include health, social development, youth, music, environment, recreation, and arts and culture, as well as the Ron Anderson Memorial and R.W. McIntosh Memorial Scholarships for local graduating secondary school students.

With the mission to enhance the quality of life in our community, the SCF is proud to invest grants in people, groups, and community impact each year.

Applications for the grants are accepted during April and May each year and are reviewed by an independent Grants Dispersal Committee. In 2021, SCF received a total of 15 applications from charitable organizations running programs in Squamish.

Annual Grants and scholarships are funded by the income earned on endowment funds held by the SCF. These funds have been established by community philanthropists since the Foundation began in 2003. Funds can be established with a minimum contribution to support an issue that is important to the donor. Donations to our established funds can be made by anyone at any time.

“On behalf of the SCF Board of Directors and staff, I would like to thank everyone who applied for a grant this year and for the great work you do in our community.”, said Suzie Soman, President of the SCF.

“Thank you also to our generous donors who make our granting possible. Your donations create lasting impact in our community. Please check out our website to see how you can invest in our community.”

The SCF is the charity of the people of Squamish and should be encouraged to be active … I have been a supporter for many years…. but do drop off when not getting the prod to donate and issues like this remind me of the importance. There were days in Squamish when kids and sporting organizations always had their hand out for assistance … the SCF has answered the Bell…. Support is always the right way….if you wish a return.
