Swimming advisory for clothing-optional Lions Bay beach

staff report
July 13, 2021 11:40am

Vancouver Coastal Health has issued a swimming advisory for clothing-optional Brunswick Beach at Lions Bay.

The beach is not suitable for swimming because of high levels of E.coli.

The advisory was issued yesterday, July 12.

The latest water sample shows elevated bacteria counts far above what is safe to be in the water in Brunswick Beach.

VCH recorded an E.coli\100 mL of 5500, and 1550, and 2450 in the last few samples.

E.coli of 400\100 mL is considered to be high for swimming and other sports in which the whole body is immersed and water is likely to be swallowed.

High counts of E. coli in recreational water may increase the chances of gastrointestinal illnesses and skin/eye infections.

Deep Cove beach and Trout Lake beach in Vancouver are the other beaches in Metro Vancouver that have been closed by VCH.
