‘Loop like a Local’: Gondola introduces new hiking experience

staff report
July 22, 2021 12:53pm

The Sea to Sky Gondola is inviting people to enjoy a new hiking experience this summer.

Guests can explore new trail loops at their own pace with ‘Loop like a Local,’ one of six curated hiking or running loop experiences all starting from the Backyard Plaza.

“At 885 meters above sea level, our loops will quickly transport you away from the hustle and bustle of the city into the natural beauty of our trail network at the summit,” the gondola says.

The Backyard Plaza is the area at the summit below the Summit Station and is staffed by volunteers.

The Local Loops can be found by downloading the Sea to Sky Gondola App.

Haley Hardy of the Sea to Sky Gondola says the Local Loops are the prefect summer adventure with friends and family.

“We were hearing from many locals that they often combined trails to create some very interesting loops. Local Loops includes some of these combined trails as well as a few of our longer loops like Shannon Basin Loop which makes a great 10 km trail running option,” Hardy says.

Though the gondola has kicked off the program this summer, it plans to add more loops in the fall and perhaps even some snowshoeing loops in the winter.

The gondola staff will be writing detailed blog posts about these loops, starting with Al’s Habrich.
