Whistler passes bylaw to reduce speed on local roads

Staff report
September 19, 2021 12:34pm

RMOW council has approved a bylaw to reduce speed limit on municipal roads from 50 kilometres per hour to 30 kilometres per hour.

The existing 50 kilometers per hour signage will removed.

Signage will be installed in two phases: Phase one includes the installation of gateway signs while and phase two includes sign installations at major intersections.

However, the bylaw would not adjust the speed on Highway 99, as it is a Provincial highway.

It was in April last year that council directed staff to work on reducing  speed limit for municipal neighbourhood roadways.

The 30 kilometres per hour speed limit is a recommendation of the World Health Organization and Vancouver Coastal Health, says RMOW.

Currently, the Provincial Motor Vehicle Act sets the default speed limit on local roadways at 50 kilometres per hour. This change in speed limit is another tool the municipality can use to slow vehicles when travelling on municipal roads, RMOW adds.

Nooooooo, the BEST way is to obligate people to get out of their cars and ONLY push them by hands. What is going on with woke people?
The entire city of the one of the world’s best known ski resorts down to 30km/h???
Even the electrical scooters and bikes are going faster…
And, what is the World Health Organization’s business in recommending the speed limit in Canada?
