First responders and specialized units responded to a person in distress in Downtown Squamish yesterday evening.
Yesterday evening, Squamish RCMP responded to a report of a person in distress inside their home in downtown.
Police secured the area and spoke to the person and called upon the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Service to assist.
The Emergency Response Team successfully got the person outside the residence and first responder teams helped get the person appropriate care.
To keep people safe, police needed to clear residents from the nearby area so the Emergency Response team and other first responders could do their work, said Sgt. Sascha Banks of Squamish RCMP.
Community safety was never at risk, she said.
“We’d like to thank residents from the local area who listened to police direction for their own safety,” said Staff Sergeant Gareth Bradley who was at the scene.
“Because people in the immediate area listened to police direction, we knew they were safe, and it gave our specialized teams space to do their needed work.”
Squamish RCMP is also thanking Squamish Fire and Rescue and Emergency Health Services for their support.
