Oceanfront Squamish is urging the marine community to use caution as construction ramps up in the area.
“With in-water works scheduled daily, it is critical to keep a wide berth when navigating waters near the southern end of the oceanfront peninsula to avoid running aground,” the company said.
Orange buoys have been placed delineating the area that should be avoided when coming in and out of the Mamquam Blind Channel.
“We ask all marine traffic (including paddle boards, canoes, power boats, sail boats, etc.) to steer clear of this area. Matthews West appreciates the public’s cooperation at this time,” the company said.
Marine users are being asked to keep a safe distance as the highlighted areas will have underlying fill material that could be hazardous.
Construction on the Oceanfront has been ongoing since September.
Machinery and truck traffic will increase as construction is anticipated to last approximately two years.
The first portion of construction will include subtidal rock placement, which is expected to take up to four months.
