SD 48 has announced the appointment of Christopher Nicholson as the new Superintendent of Schools.
He is expected to assume his new position on November 1.
In his 27th year of service to public education, Nicholson is currently an Assistant Superintendent for the Sea to Sky School District (No.48).
In this capacity, he supports the Superintendent in the district’s day-to-day operations, including supporting board meetings and policy development & review.
He shares responsibilities in supervising curriculum, instruction & assessment, leadership development, information & communication technology, and specific oversight of athletics and the Grad Program.
In addition to these district responsibilities, he is a member of several Board and district committees and learning partnerships.
These include the Public Relations, Community Engagement, and Communications Committee of the Board, the DPAC Inclusion Committee, and the Coast Metro Consortium of Vancouver area district leaders.
He has also been the Director of Learning Services for the New Westminster School District, where he oversaw inclusive education in a district of approximately 7000 students.
Nicholson is also proud to have been the district lead on the development and implementation of that district’s SOGI policy and to have contributed to the review of all policies and administrative procedures.
Before moving to the district administration, Nicholson’s teaching experience focused on inclusive education in grade 8 -12 secondary schools in the Richmond School District.
