BC Hydro has issued a flood alert for area downstream of Cheakamus Dam.
Inflows to Daisy Reservoir are high and the reservoir is forecasted to exceed 376.5 metres this evening, BC Hydro said.
Spill from Daisy Dam will be increased to 300 cubic metres per second. There is potential to exceed 450 cubic metres per second discharge at Brackendale if natural inflows do not subside.
However, inflows are expected to start receding this evening and tomorrow.
Residents and visitors are reminded to be cautious around the edges of the Cheakamus River during these increased flow periods
Please be mindful of water safety. This BC Hydro Flood Alert is in effect until rescinded.
The Cheakamus dam project is located on the Cheakamus River about 35 kilometres north of Squamish.

In the 70’s we used to dredge our River Beds and built dykes to protect properties. Now we do not dredge and we do not build dykes and the river beds are now rising by 20 plus feet, so where do you think water is going to go.The fish were plentiful back then. Until Federal Government got involved. Dredge the rivers. Thanks Garry Hastings
