Whistler RCMP checking winter tires on Sea to Sky Highway

Staff report
November 18, 2021 5:26pm

Whistler RCMP have been conducting winter tire checks on the Sea to Sky Highway. Whistler RCMP said it responded to multiple collisions today after snowfall on the Sea to Sky highway.

“Please slow down and look for Miller Capilano snow plow and salting. Drive for winter conditions,” Whistler RCMP said.

Winter tires are required to travel along the Sea to Sky Highway from October 1 through until March 31.

An appropriate winter tire has either M+S or a mountain/snowflake symbol, and a minimum tread depth of 3.5 millimetres.

In October, Squamish RCMP said in a media release that officers will be doing winter tire education and enforcement campaigns on the Sea to Sky Highway.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act, police can fine drivers of passenger cars $121 for not having winter tires as required.

“We don’t have control over the weather conditions, but we can sure prepare ourselves with proper equipment and safe driving choices,” says Cpl. Angela Kermer of Squamish RCMP
