Community is invited to be part of the 9th memory tree, an annual event hosted every year by the Sea to Sky Hospice Society and the Squamish Funeral Chapel.
The event will be held this Friday, November 26, at the Squamish Town Hub, behind Canadian Tire.
It is a bereavement event that brings families together to remember their loved ones and acknowledge their grief, says Nicole Carothers, the program director of Sea to Sky Hospice Society.
The event starts promptly at 6 pm, with a short service from George McKenzie, the director of the Squamish Funeral Home.
After the service, there will be a brief candlelight ceremony and the memory tree will be lit up.
Memory tags are also available at the event, where people can write the names of their loved ones and put them on the tree.
There will be singing and hot chocolate will be served, but the idea is for people to remember and honour their loved ones.
“Grief needs to be acknowledged and grief needs to be witnessed, and this event gives time and space for people to grieve in a supportive environment,” Carothers says.
