Flood watch issued for Sea to Sky region

Staff report
November 25, 2021 4:41pm

The River Forecast Centre has issued a Flood Watch advisory for Sea to Sky, Sunshine Coast, Howe Sound, and North Shore.

The flood watch also applies to Lower Mainland including for areas along Fraser Valley and around Hope.

The first of a series of storms has arrived on the South Coast.

The storm will bring heavy rainfall, with forecast ranging between 40 to 70 mm over the Fraser Valley and 50 to 80 mm over the North Shore and Howe Sound.

Higher amounts of rain is possible over higher terrain.

Rivers are expected to rise on Thursday in response to the first rainfall event, with the potential for highest flows  expected around the Sunshine Coast, Howe Sound and the North Shore.

The public is advised to stay clear of the fast‐flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks during the high‐streamflow period.
