Speeding driver’s car impounded for 30 days

Staff report
December 22, 2021 10:03am

Squamish RCMP impounded a speeding driver’s car for 30 days and issued the man a three-month driving prohibition.

On December 14, an officer on regular patrol noticed a car pass by him at high speed. The officer conducted a traffic stop and the driver admitted to drinking. The driver subsequently failed the breath test conducted by the officer.

An immediate 90-day roadside prohibition was issued and the driver’s car was impounded for one month under the Motor Vehicle Act.

On December 18, Squamish RCMP officers also conducted several traffic stops to check for impaired driving. As many as 91 cars were checked and five roadside screening tests were administered. The impaired driving campaign continues through the New Year, Squamish RCMP says.
