Special weather statement for Howe Sound

Staff report
January 10, 2022 8:30am

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Howe Sound. A warmer and wetter weather pattern is on the way, and heavy rain is expected.

The time frame for this special statement is from Tuesday afternoon through to Wednesday night. The statement is also in effect for West and Inland Vancouver Island, East Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast, Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley.

Heavy rain is expected to develop later Tuesday as the first of several systems embedded in the flow arrives. Heavy rain will continue at times through Wednesday night as other weather systems arrive.

Some snowmelt at low levels will contribute to runoff which may result in high stream levels and localized flooding, the agency warns.
