Man arrested for stabbing Mexican tourist at Tim Hortons in Vancouver

Staff report
January 26, 2022 4:00pm

The man accused of stabbing a Mexican tourist inside a downtown Tim Hortons has been arrested by Vancouver Police following a dynamic three-day investigation.

David Richard Morin, 27, was taken into custody near Granville and Helmcken streets shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday by members of VPD’s Emergency Response Team.

“We’re relieved to have made an arrest so quickly in this troubling case, and hope this helps restore the sense of safety that some people have lost,” says Sergeant Steve Addison. “Everyone who came forward with information deserves credit for this quick arrest.”

Earlier this week, VPD released video of the stabbing, which occurred inside the Tim Hortons at Harbour Centre around 6:20 a.m. Saturday. The victim, a 25-year-old newcomer to Canada, is recovering from serious and life-threatening injuries.

“A number of people came forward with information after seeing the video, and thanks to help from the public, investigators identified a suspect from the Downtown Eastside,” adds Sergeant Addison. “VPD officers located the suspect walking in the downtown core Tuesday afternoon and took him into custody.”

Morin appeared in court Wednesday morning and has been charged with one count of aggravated assault. He remains in custody.

Not lawyer-ish myself, but “aggravated assault” does not sound to me like attempted murder, and this is exactely what that pumpkin head did to that pure guy. Why and when we will stop favoritism for criminals over victims?
