District of Squamish plans to remind residents of the importance of picking up after their dogs in the estuary.
Bylaw officers would patrol the area as time permitted, said Frank Rawlings, the Manager of Bylaw Enforcement and Animal Control, in response to a resident of Eaglewind complex who wrote to the District about dog waste.
“I see owners not picking up after their dogs all the time. The trail is now unwalkable. It’s really quite something to see, smell and clean off your boots before you get home,” the resident wrote. “For an outdoor community that is supposed to care about the outdoors, it’s embarrassing.”
Bylaw manager Rawlings said he has also reached out to the District of Squamish’s communication department to get a reminder message out to the public about the importance of picking up after their dogs.
“It is not only an eye sore, dog feces can harm the environment and cause public health concerns. Our hope is that we all work together to get this very important message out to the public,” Rawlings said.

They also need to be reminded to keep there dogs leashed. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost been knocked over.

Valleycliffe too. The dike trail, John Hunter Park, and the adjacent trails are bad. Somehow I doubt publishing a pamphlet will change much. The problem needs large prominent signage backed up with actual bylaw enforcement to get the message across.
