Squamish Community Foundation gave over $47,500 in emergency funding to local charities in 2021

Staff report
March 8, 2022 9:26am

The Squamish Community Foundation continued to weather the pandemic storm in 2021 but was also able to offer support to the community.

The Foundation distributed over $47,500 in Emergency Funding to local charities in 2021. These funds were a combination of individual donor gifts and flow-through COVID-19 Safe Recovery money from the District of Squamish.

These emergency funds offered responsive and current funding opportunities for our local non-profits.  In early 2021 the Foundation signed a landmark partnership agreement with the District of Squamish to manage the Squamish Community Enhancement Grants, administering $86,572 to local non-profits.

The Neighbourhood Small Grants program saw a record breaking $18,546 dispersed to 40 neighbourhood programs such as block parties, community gardens and local library boxes.

The interest earned on SCF investments are also returned to the community annually through the Annual Grants.

This funding supports local programming for the environment, recreation, social services, music/arts, health, culture, post—secondary education and youth. In the summer of 2021, the Foundation distributed $3,000 in scholarships and over $26,000 in Annual Grants.
