Winter storm warning issued for Coquihalla Highway

staff report
April 3, 2022 3:53pm

Winter storm warning is in effect for Coquihalla Highway, from Hope to Merritt.

A prolonged snowfall event is expected tonight and will continue to Tuesday afternoon, with 25 to 40 cm in forecast for the Coquihalla Summit.

An approaching Pacific system is expected to bring significant amounts of snow across higher elevation passes.

According to Environment Canada,  light snow is expected to intensify overnight with lowering snow levels. Snow at times heavy will continue through Monday and taper off to a few flurries Tuesday afternoon.

“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” says the agency.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
