Supporters of Save Old Growth have blocked the Trans-Canada Highway in North Vancouver demanding legislation to end all old growth logging in British Columbia.
Supporters have blocked the Trans-Canada Highway in North Vancouver as it passes over Lynn Creek. Last week, one person was arrested for blocking the highway near West Vancouver while two people from the group were arrested on the Columbia River Bridge in Revelstoke over the weekend.
The group says more such blockaded will happen in the province.
Save Old Growth said it had paused to give the government time to pass legislation but there has been no action or statement from the government and so disruption of the highways is resuming at an escalated intensity.
“What the scientists are telling us is that if we don’t act now, then we don’t have a future. We will live in a world with widespread food shortages, mass migration, war and death.” said Julia Torgerson, a spokesperson for Save Old Growth.
“The government continues to talk and delay while these essential forests continue to be logged. This cannot wait any longer.” said Ian Weber, one of the organizers. Two people from the group also remain on hunger strike calling for a public meeting with Katrine Conroy on the protection of the last remaining old growth forests in BC.
