Group blocks highway at Willingdon Avenue

Staff report
April 13, 2022 8:23am

Save Old Growth has blocked all six westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway enroute to Vancouver.

Supporters of Save Old Growth have blocked traffic heading into Vancouver in all 6 westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway by Willingdon Ave at Exit 29.

One person is locked in place with a heavy barrel, and arrests are expected.

This is the second disruption in Vancouver this week, part of an ongoing escalation across the province to demand the provincial government pass legislation to immediately end all old growth logging in British Columbia.

The group said 77 arrests have been made so far this year.

“I am blocking the Trans-Canada Highway because 600+ British Columbians died during the heat dome last summer. The Premier famously said that fatalities are a fact of life. We cannot accept fatalities that come from the government’s neglect of its duty of care. Federal and provincial governments have egregiously neglected their duty to combat climate breakdown,” said Bill Winder, 69, a retired UBC professor, before going onto the highway this morning.

I really hope these pieces of fecal matter, get run over by an 18 wheeler and smeared all over the highway.

I don’t wish death on anyone, but I really do wish they would find a better way to protest.

These groups never gain support by p*ssing people off. Blocking the highways and creating multi hour traffic jams just turns people against them. They need to find better ways to protest.
