District of Squamish has received a rezoning proposal to allow for a five-lot consolidation development in Downtown Squamish.
If successful, the five-lot consolidation at 38028-38062 Third Avenue will lead to a building with 80 condos. The six-storey, 20-metre building will offer 80 condos and 18,000 square feet of commercial space, and 104 parking spaces.
There will be studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom homes with flexible and spacious layouts, according to preliminary information provided by the proponent.
The development will provide $2,437,000 in financial contributions to the District. Laneway improvements and paving, curbs and drainage are being considered with a new sidewalk and a mid-block crosswalk and an open public space.
As many as 82 parking spaces will be provided for 80 units.
Alex says
Seriously, 82 parking spaces for 80 units. Just look around anywhere in Squamish and any fool can see that double that won’t be enough.
Mike says
Agreed. Squamish town council please make developers provide 2parking spots per unit. Most of these condos are only affordable by households with 2 working partners each needing their own car.
Vickie Nickel says
Every unit should have a 2 parking spot entitlement, also 1 parking spot per retail space for staff use and 1 per 500 sq ft for consumers to use.
Residential 160 spaces + 15 for rental space staff + 36 minimum for consumers = 211 parking spaces.
Jim Harvey says
In the short term, I agree, the need for more parking is self-evident through-out Squamish. However, with the desirous trends to increase public transit, facilitate bike usage, growth of shared-use vehicle programs and the somewhat nebulous future of autonomous vehicles, the space required for private vehicle ownership and usage SHOULD be declining. The sad reality of climate change is that we all have to change established behaviours and practices. To address the needs of our planet will require sacrifice.
