BC Parks cautions about winter conditions in Cheakamus Lake area

BC Parks has cautioned about winter conditions in the Cheakamus Lake area in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Those visiting can expect winter conditions on the upper part of the access road to Cheakamus Lake as well as the trail and camping areas.

BC Parks recommends that snow tires and chains should be used while accessing the area. “If unable to reach parking lot, please avoid blocking the road with your vehicle,” says BC Parks.

BC Parks also cautions that popular backcountry ski touring areas in Garibaldi Provincial Park require advanced skills, advanced planning and good weather conditions. These areas include the Garibaldi Neve Traverse, Singing Pass and the Spearhead-Fitzsimmons Traverse.

“Consider parking, access to trailheads and lifts, backcountry access routes, required safety equipment, training and trip planning prior to travel,” says BC Parks.

At Alice Lake Park, access to a section of the north shores of Edith and Fawn Lakes is closed to protect Western Toads. Hundreds of Western Toads are breeding at Edith and Fawn Lakes. This includes along shorelines accessed by people. To protect the toads and allow them to breed successfully, access to a small section of the north shores of Edith Lake (near the pit toilet) and Fawn Lake (in front and to the right of the main lake access beach) will be closed.

Visitors are asked to not access the lakeshore at the north end of Edith Lake and Fawn Lake, control their dogs, and avoid disturbing toads.

    Dogs are not allowed in Garibaldi Park, at all. This article should reflect that-as written, it implies that dogs would be allowed, if under control.
