Squamish RCMP investigating woman’s death near Porteau Cove park

The Squamish RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating following a Surrey woman’s death near Porteau Cove Provincial Park on Sunday morning.

On May 14, at approximately 10:50 am, Squamish RCMP was called to assist with a possible drowning at Porteau Cove Provincial Park. The RCMP along with the Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, BC Ambulance and Britannia Beach Fire Rescue responded to the incident.

Despite rescue efforts, the victim, a woman from Surrey, succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene. Criminality is not suspected in her death. The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is conducting a concurrent fact finding investigation into the circumstances around the woman’s death.
