On Sunday, Lions Bay Search and Rescue rescued an injured hiker with his dog at a trail on Mount Harvey.
Crews were called at 1:30 pm for an injured hiker who had become stuck in a gully after the dog took a tumble off trail. The hiker was able to provide accurate coordinates and stayed in place after calling 911 which helped tremendously in locating and accessing the subject, said Lions Bay Search and Rescue.
Three SAR members was dropped off near the summit of Mount Harvey to descend the trail to access the subject. They were able to descend into the gully to perform an assessment and provide first aid.
Aided by North Shore Rescue and Talon Helicopters, Lions Bay SAR was able to safely extricate the man and his dog by a long line. Lions Bay Search and Rescue thanks North Shore Rescue and Talon Helicopters for their speedy response and assistance.
The rescue crews are also giving a special shout out to the bystanders in bright clothing who helped them spot the man and waited with him. Lions Bay Search and Rescue is also thanking bystanders who quickly cleared the scene upon arrival, and made room to make the helicopter access much less risky.
