One man has been arrested after a hit-and-run seriously injured two local women. Both were taken to the Lions Gate Hospital. While one of them is speaking to loved ones, the other woman remains critical. The victims were identified as Gurpreet Kaur Sangha and Kuljit Kaur by a family member who called the Squamish Reporter.
The incident happened on Friday, September 3, at around 11:25 pm in Downtown Squamish, on Cleveland and Pemberton Avenue. A pick-up truck went over a sidewalk, plowed through a chain link fence and hit the two women who were waiting for a bus.
The male driver ran away from the scene but was arrested for hit-and-run causing injury and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing injury. Police say a large number of people saw the accident happen and rushed to the rescue of the women.
