IHIT called after human remains found in burning vehicle on Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast RCMP is advising the public of an investigation into a suspicious vehicle fire and requesting anyone with information to contact police.

On September 28, 2022, at approximately 1:15 a.m. Sunshine Coast RCMP received a report from Egmont Fire to attend the 15500 block of Sunshine Coast Hwy, Egmont for a suspicious vehicle fire.

First responders attended and discovered human remains in the vehicle. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been deployed and will be working in partnership with the Sunshine Coast RCMP.

The area surrounding the scene will be cordoned off for a significant amount of time. Traffic on Highway 101 continues to be open. Anyone with further information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact the IHIT info line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
