Quest University Professor Andrew Hamilton has thrown his hat into the ring for Squamish Council.  Hamilton is a physics professor with a PhD from the University of Alberta.

His career in particle physics research has led him around the world, living in places like the United States, Switzerland, and South Africa while working with organizations like the U.S. Department of Energy and the European Centre for Nuclear Research.

Hamilton moved to Squamish in 2016 with his wife, Kelly, and two boys for the opportunity to work at Quest and live in the Sea to Sky Corridor.  The family had earlier lived in Chicago, Geneva and Cape Town.

“Until moving to Squamish, I have never lived in a place that could not imagine leaving.  I hope to live the remainder of my life enjoying the people, the trails, the lakes, and the mountains of Squamish.  Squamish is an amazing place and I would like to help make it even more amazing.”

Hamilton believes that Council does a lot more than deliver on a short list of campaign promises.  If given the opportunity to serve, Hamilton promises to hold himself to these three personal standards of conduct: open and humble community consultation, informed and respectful debate, and timely and transparent decision making.

Hamilton’s priorities are fiscally and environmentally sustainable infrastructure, fair and responsible development zoning, reasonable and reliable recreation amenities.
