District of Squamish plans to build two new tennis courts at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre and rehabilitate the existing courts in the community. The District plans to spend $850,000 on the project.
Of this amount, $350,000 will be spent in 2023, followed by $250,000 in 2024 and $250,000 in 2025.
“Existing courts have extensive settlement and cracking issues creating a playing surface that is becoming unsafe. Full re-instatement of court sub-base and playing surface is required,” says the latest budget report.
The District of Squamish is also proposing six to eight pickleball courts in the Brennan Park fields and lands. The courts will cost $320,000 and are part of the $10 million Parks and Recreation budget for capital projects in the municipality.
Staff are recommending that Community Amenity Contributions fund several of these capital projects including the Brennan Park playground and splash park, the new park in North Yards, a dog park at Brennan Park, and the new tennis and pickleball courts.
