Whistler considering year-round paid parking on Day Lot 4 & 5

February 8, 2023 11:57am

Resort Municipality of Whistler is considering year-round paid parking on Day Lot 4 & 5. At a council meeting on January 24, council directed staff to bring the proposal to the Day Lot Operating Committee.

“The potential for year-round paid parking is being considered; however, council has only approved the concept in principle,” said Jennifer Smith, media relations for RMOW.

The proposal is now with the Day Lot Operating Committee—a committee with two senior staff members from the Resort Municipality of Whistler and two senior staff members from Whistler Blackcomb—to approve the approach.

Smith said the goal is to increase turnover and encourage more sustainable transportation. The Committee will also consider approval of a $25 per month pass for those lots. The current rate is $36 for the months where there is a charge. If the year-round parking is established, it would add an extra $667,000 to RMOW coffers.

At the same meeting, the council also approved an increase in street parking rates beginning April 3.
