Neighbourhood Craft is returning to Downtown Squamish with more than 30 local artists, makers and growers. The outdoor market will take place on Saturday, May 13 at 38174 Cleveland Avenue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission for all.
Hosted by the Squamish non-profit Neighbourhood Society, Neighbourhood Craft represents the vision of founders Rachel Boguski and Laura DiCecco to transform public spaces through inclusive arts and culture experiences. A public lot lined with murals by artists Kevin Ledo and Jessa Gilbert is the chosen venue for the single-day event where emerging artists, makers and growers will showcase and sell their work.
“We have invited a talented group of artists, makers and growers from Squamish and our surrounding communities, many of whom have had less representation within the market scene,” says Neighborhood Society Founding Director Laura Di Cecco. “Neighbourhood is very much about recognizing the range of creativity that exists locally and we are excited to bring that diversity to Squamish.”
Visitors to Neighbourhood Craft will find art, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, vintage, apparel, home goods from more than 30 vendors, with a focus on youth, BIPOC, and emerging artists.
“Introducing new artists to the Squamish community is important to us, and helps to increase local access to arts and culture,” says Founding Director Rachel Boguski. “We hope that by offering a free event in the heart of our Downtown core, we will encourage the community to connect and engage with art and objects, and the people behind them.”
The vendor lineup welcomes both returning vendors and market newcomers including Ami Like Miami, Alexis Simoneau, Melodie Borosevich and Ali T. Bruce who created the artwork for the event. The market will also include live music and aura photography by Eleni Koletsos of Hello Aura. A full list of vendors is available at neighbourhoodcraft.ca.
