Update: The wildfire in Squamish has now grown to 15 hectares.

BC Wildfire Service crews are responding to a fire burning in Squamish Valley, 20 kms of Squamish FSR.
Julia Caranci, a fire information officer with Coastal Fire Centre, told the Squamish Reporter the fire was first reported around 3:30 pm. The status of the 8-hectare fire is out of control, though no critical infrastructure or homes is under risk, she said. An out-of-control fire means it is continuing to spread and is not responding to suppression efforts.
“The fire is located at Shovelnose Creek Forest Service Road, 20 kilometres west of Squamish. The area is very steep and rugged and firefighters are having a difficult time accessing it, Caranci said. ‘We are acting in the areas that are accessible and we have a helicopter that is assisting with bucketing. We have 8 firefighter on site.”
The fire is suspected to be human-caused, but that is under investigation, she added.
