A BC music band attempting to break Guinness World Record to raise money for BC Children’s Hospital will start its concert series in Squamish. On July 8, LooPS will tour the Lower Mainland playing 9 concerts in 9 cities in 12 hours, and the band kicks off its world record attempt from Squamish at 10 am.
Kevin Roy and Jon Fennell of LooPS will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most concerts in a 12-hour period with a whirlwind tour of the Lower Mainland, raising money and awareness for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. After Squamish, the band performs at Vancouver, Abbotsford, Burnaby, Chillwack, Richmond, Mission, Delta and Langley.
The current record stands at 8 concerts in 12 hours, performed by Minhee Jones from England.
According to Guinness, in order for each show to be official, it must be in a different city, last for a minimum of 15 minutes, have at least 10 ticket-holding people in the audience, with each stop separated by a minimum of 50 kms. LooPS will start their tour in Squamish playing at Coastal Ford before jumping on Highway 99 to their next stop at the Blarney Stone in Gastown. Limited to one show per city, their itinerary then takes them into the Greater Vancouver area with stops planned in Burnaby, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Richmond, Mission, and Delta. The record-breaking final show and celebration will be at Poseidon Restaurant and Bar in Langley.
The tickets to be part of the Guinness World Record attempt will be available by donation to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation with 100% of revenues going to the charity.
“When we had the idea of trying to break this Guinness World Record, we wanted it to mean something,” said lead singer Kevin Roy. “My younger brother was hospitalized much of his life until he passed away at 6 years old and my nieces are both teenagers with Cystic Fibrosis. Through this lens, both myself and Jon have seen the incredible work done by the BC Children’s Hospital and thought this was a great way for us to give back to them.”
“Being involved in setting a Guinness World Record is something that most people never experience,” said multi-instrumentalist Jon Fennell. “We’re excited to invite people all across the Lower Mainland to come out and be part of this attempt by checking our itinerary—with so many stops, there’ll be a concert nearby on July 8th.”
