High-Speed Porsches Seized: Sea to Sky Highway Crackdown Ensnares Reckless Drivers
Three Porsche cars have been impounded by the police after being caught speeding together on the Sea to Sky Highway.
On June 30, 2023 at approximately 8 pm, an officer with BC Highway Patrol in Squamish was conducting speed enforcement around Porteau Cove Road overpass when he spotted the speeding vehicles on Sea to Sky Highway. In a statement, police said the officer noticed three Porsche cars approaching his position at an ‘extremely high rate of speed.’

The first two vehicles were traveling at a speed of 195 km/h while the third Porsche was travelling at a speed of 146 km/h. The posted speed limit on this stretch is 80 km/h. The officer managed to have all three drivers pull over at a safe location and impounded the vehicles for one week.
The three drivers, all from Lower Mainland BC, were also issued violation tickets for excessive speeding under the BC Motor Vehicle Act. They also received three-month driving prohibitions from the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.
Squamish councillor John French recently wrote about the need for automated speed enforcement on the Sea to Sky Highway. He will be speaking about this issue with the Provincial Minister of Public Safety at the annual Union of BC Municipalities Convention in September. A local resident, Matthew Paugh, has also launched a petition asking for more safety on the Sea to Sky Highway. His petition has gotten more than 1,600 signatures.
