Heat wave: Air-conditioned places to cool off in Squamish

staff report
August 14, 2023 11:54am

A prolonged heat wave is affecting the South Coast with daytime temperatures reaching 32 to 37 degrees Celsius. A heat warning is in effect for Howe Sound, through to Wednesday.

Expect above seasonal daytime temperatures and elevated overnight temperatures.  While the heat is not forecast to be as severe as during the 2021 heat dome, high temperatures are associated with higher risk of heat-related illness, especially over a prolonged period, says the Province.

Local residents can cool off in the following air-conditioned public facilities during regular operating hours:

Brennan Park Recreation Centre

  • Monday to Friday – 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday – 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The 55 Activity Centre

  • Sunday/Monday Closed
  • Tues-Saturday – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Squamish Public Library

  • Monday – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday to Thursday – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday – Closed
