Squamish Fire Rescue is hiring for paid, on-call positions. If you are a permanent Squamish resident, interested in joining a highly trained and an immensely dedicated team, Squamish Fire Rescue would like to hear from you.
Squamish Fire Rescue is a composite department of paid on-call and career firefighters. Applicants will be invited to participate in a selection process involving interviews as well as physical and mechanical aptitude testing. All applicants will have to provide a Driver’s Abstract and Criminal Record check to the District of Squamish.
Successful candidates will begin an intense six-month training program that starts in January. Those selected will be trained in accordance with the Justice Institute of BC Fire Academy module certification system. Training sessions will be held weekly and will include drills that are physically demanding. 100 per cent attendance is required, and some home study is also required.
Squamish Fire Rescue reserves the right to disqualify any person from the hiring process if the department believes the candidate’s demeanour may compromise the department’s professional standard of duty and care.
“In exchange for your time and commitment, you will be rewarded with strong community support, the knowledge that you are making a real difference by protecting our residents and visitors, and a truly amazing sense of accomplishment and pride,” says Squamish Fire Rescue. Those interested can call the office during regular business hours, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at (604) 898-9666.
